Italy: Biking in Puglia
You'll be cycling approximately 30 miles a day, crossing secondary roads with beautiful panoramas.
Salento is famous worldwide for its traditional cuisine, which combines marine and earth flavors. It is renowned for its wine production, particularly of Primitivo and Negramaro grapes. The region is almost completely flat, making the ride a pleasant journey for any level of rider.
Day 1: Lecce
After your arrival at the Bari or Brindisi airport, you will be transferred to the city of Lecce where you will spend your first day visiting the city or just relaxing at your hotel.
Day 2: Lecce, Gallipoli
For the first day, you ride for a few miles across the town of Lecce before you will go deep into the ‘salentinian countryside’, before approaching the Ionian coast and reach the town of Gallipoli.
Day 3: Gallipoli, Santa Maria di Leuca
The second day you will cycle further along the coast and you will reach the town of Santa Maria di Leuca. Its name was given by the ancient Greek sailors who came from the East. They saw this place lightened by the sun and therefore called it ‘leukos’, meaning white. The town is today a famous seaside resort.
Day 4: Santa Maria di Leuca, Otranto
For the third day, the route will be along the Adriatic Sea, you will cycle northwards towards the town of Otranto. Don’t miss to visit the beautiful cathedral and the great Aragonese Castle.
Day 5: Otranto, Lecce
Today is the last day of this wonderful bike tour. Before to return to Lecce, you will ride along the Alimini Lakes and their Mediterranean scenery.
Day 6: Lecce
You can spend more days in Italy or you can be transferred from your hotel in Lecce to the Bari or Brindisi airport.
